Inferior Modem

Simply put, the modem I have is inferior. I have to use an app to access the resources of the modem, and even though I can’t do many things that I would be able to do on most modem/router combinations. If I wanted to setup a static IP address for my NAS as an example, I am SOL. If I wanted to setup a guest network for my home service, I am SOL. Comcast will not allow me to use my own modem, and my own router, so I have to settle with what they offer to me which is not something that I would want to do.

So what can Comcast do about this? Allow the customer to use their own hardware. I am not expecting Comcast to start supporting routers that don’t belong to them, but for people where this matter, they should be able to identify the difference between their router issues, and an internet connection issue. For example, I have a DOCISS-3 modem sitting my closet that can’t be used because I have to use their hardware that is crippled, and prevents me from doing what I want. If Comcast allowed customers to use their own hardware, they would have have a better experience.
